The purpose and intent of the SVILA Environmental Committee is to preserve the safety, environmental quality, and scenic beauty of the Sun Valley Lake Development, through the application of standards, rules and guidelines that sustain and enhance the value of homeowner properties and lake amenities.
The Committee provides guidance, monitoring, and process to meet these objectives with integrity, fairness, consistent rules application and decision-making.
The Committee encourages all property owners to observe these rules and guidelines, recognizing we are working together to achieve the above mentioned outcomes and benefits for ALL owners at Sun Valley Lake.
Sun Valley’s Environmental Committee (EC) is the current-day successor of the Environmental Control Committee, established under a group of By-Laws, Covenants, & Restrictions originally put into place by the Patten Corporation. Patten Corp. purchased Sun Valley Lake from the original lake developer (Anderson) in the 1980’s with the intent to continue the long-term development of the lake and surrounding land as an exclusive fishing and recreational community. Patten Corp. later deeded the common areas of Sun Valley Lake over to the current owner – Sun Valley Iowa Lake Association (SVILA).
Establishing the EC along with restrictive covenants and rules was an intentional approach. The combination of rules-based community building development, with restrictions, would allow a variety of socio-economic groups and families the opportunity to invest in a newly formed lake community with significant potential, while simultaneously helping ensure those investments would be supported through an evolving standard of high quality, real estate development practices.
The history and evolution of the EC has, in large measure, achieved its original intended outcome. SVILA has evolved into an economically diverse community with standards and rules of ownership that support an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sustainable lake-based community.
